The short version

Simple rules, honest paint.

Selling

1

Fill in the form

Brand, colour, size, how full it is, how old it is, and your postcode. Snap the label and the AI fills most of it in.

2

List it free

Free to list — no commission, no hidden extras. Trade sellers list a whole batch in one go.

3

Keep your link

Right after you list, you get a private link. It's the only way to take your tin down or mark it sold — keep it safe.

4

Off the shelf after 30 days

Listings automatically come down after 30 days unless you extend them from your link.

Buying

Enter your postcode to see what's near you, message the seller, and arrange collection. You pay nothing on Second Coat — the price is settled between you and the seller when you meet.

Before you use second-hand paint

  • Shake the tin. If it sloshes like water, the paint has separated hard and may not come back. A well-mixed tin feels thick.
  • Open and sniff. Fresh paint smells of paint. A sour, rotten smell means bacteria have got in — don't use it.
  • Stir, then test. Stir thoroughly and paint a small test patch. If it dries smooth and even, you're good to go.
  • Mind the age. Water-based paint lasts years if sealed and frost-free. Check the age and when it was last opened on every listing.

Free to list

Listing is free while we launch — we want the shelf full of good paint. No commission, no fees for buyers — ever. Nothing changes for buyers: the price is settled between you and the seller when you collect.

Businesses with a garage full of surplus stock can list a whole batch at once — free per tin, one form.
